What is Manual Lymph Drainage or MLD? You may wonder. This is a specific form of therapy that focuses on stimulating the lymphatic system, and shutting down the Sympathe
tic System which is overstimulated by stress. MLD is a very light touch that moves the skin in a pumping rhythmical manner. The treatment is always started at the neck where the lymphatic system ends. The treatment then moves out from that point to the problem areas. This causes a suction like affect that speeds the lymph system by 20-50%. The Lymph system is essentialy responsible for maintaining the immune system. It is the body's waste management system. It collects excess water, toxins, protiens, viruses, bacteria and other foreign substances from the tissues and takes them to lymph nodes where the lymph is cleaned and immunities (antibodies, lymphocites, T-cells) are added.
It is performed mainly by massage therapists and physical therapists who have had specialized training in MLD by a reputable lymphatic school. I received my training from the Dr Vodder School of Lymphatics.
